A cím arra a lóra utal, amelyet Friedrich Nietzsche pillantott meg 1889. január 3-án, torinói lakásából kilépve. A kocsi elé kötött ló megmakacsolta magát, mire a kocsis ostorral ütlegelni kezdte. A filozófus odalépett a lóhoz, majd hatalmas zokogásban kitörve átölelte. Miután szolgája hazavitte, ágyba tette Nietzschét, aki innentől kezdve élete hátralévő 10 évét némán, szellemi leépülésben töltötte.

The title refers to the horse that Friedrich Nietzsche saw on January 3, 1889, as he stepped out of his apartment in Turin. The horse, harnessed to a carriage, refused to move, and the coachman began beating it with a whip. The philosopher approached the horse and, bursting into tears, threw his arms around its neck. After his servant took him home and put him to bed, Nietzsche spent the remaining ten years of his life in silence and mental decline.
