President François Mitterrand wants to commission a new architectural symbol for Paris to mark the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. He must serve his sentence in the parish of the kind-hearted priest Ivan. The community, made up of an assortment of eccentric characters, welcomes the newcomer with curiosity and openness. Adam is entrusted with caring for the pride of the parsonage garden, an apple tree and is tasked with baking an apple pie from its fruit. But despite his determination, a series of increasingly disastrous obstacles stand in the way of his plan. Ivan believes the Devil is tormenting them, while Adam sees it as the work of God and begins to wonder whether evil may not exist at all.
Mads Mikkelsen’s performance, the film’s distinctive humor, and its uniquely inventive screenplay made it a memorable audience favorite upon its original release. During its 2026 re-release, the film will be screened in cinemas from a digital restoration. Tovább
