Egy velencei árvaházban járunk a 18. század hajnalán. Az Ospedale della Pietà falai között nevelkedő lányok hangszeres képzésben részesülnek, rendkívüli játékuk egész Európából vonzza a látogatókat. Itt él és várja jobb sorát – jobb híján kiházasítását – a hegedűvirtuóz Cecilia is. Amikor Vivaldi személyében új zenetanár érkezik az intézménybe, a lányban felcsillan a remény, hogy tehetsége révén kiszabadulhat a számára előirányzott életből.

A Venetian orphanage at the dawn of the 18th century. The girls raised within the walls of the Ospedale della Pietà receive instrumental training, and their extraordinary playing attracts visitors from all over Europe. Here lives Cecilia, a violin virtuoso who hopes for a better fate or at least to be married off. When a new music teacher arrives in the form of Vivaldi, the girl’s hope is rekindled: through her talent, she might escape the life that has been laid out for her.
