A történet a hetvenes évek végén, valahol a Földközi-tenger térségében játszódik. Marcos Timoleon hajómágnás fényűző és pazarló születésnapi ünnepséget rendez exkluzív magánszigetén lányának és egyetlen örökösének, Sofiának. Az esemény tökéletes alkalmat kínál arra, hogy a környezetében élők kívánságaikkal és saját önös érdekeikkel környékezzék meg. Marcos azonban ahhoz szokott, hogy egyfajta keresztapaként irányítson mindent és mindenkit maga körül, bármi áron. Úgy érzi, ő már döntött is lánya jövőjéről. Sofia ugyanakkor szintén fontos hírt hozott magával. Ahogy érkeznek a vendégek és leszáll az éj a szigeten, a mulatság egyre féktelenebbé válik, miközben apa és lánya hatalmi harca elkerülhetetlen tragédia felé sodródik.
A film Panos Karnezis 2007-ben megjelent, azonos című regényének adaptációja. A szerzőt Marcos Timoleon alakjának megformálásakor Arisztotelész Onasszisz felemelkedése és tragédiákkal terhelt családi története inspirálta.

The story takes place in the late 1970s, somewhere in the Mediterranean. Shipping magnate Marcos Timoleon throws a lavish and extravagant birthday celebration for his daughter and only heir, Sofia, on his exclusive private island. The event provides the perfect opportunity for those around him to approach him with their wishes and selfish interests. Marcos, however, is accustomed to controlling everything and everyone around him like a godfather, whatever the cost. He feels that he has already decided his daughter’s future. Sofia, meanwhile, has brought some important news of her own. As the guests arrive and night falls over the island, the festivities become increasingly wild and unrestrained, while the power struggle between father and daughter hurtles inevitably toward tragedy.
The film is an adaptation of Panos Karnezis’s 2007 novel of the same title. In creating the character of Marcos Timoleon, the author was inspired by Aristotle Onassis’s rise to power and his family history marked by tragedy.
